Comparing a Comfort Club membership with paying per visit? See the actual service fees, discounts, install credits and included visits for each option.

Many homeowners treat the choice between a maintenance membership and paying per visit as a simple matter of putting off spending. If the furnace is running and not making strange noises, why pay anyone to look at it? As fall settles in, it is worth thinking it through. HVAC systems are mechanical systems that wear with use, and skipping regular care lets small problems add up quietly. The real question is whether planned, regular care or paying as you go is the better fit for your home.
At Gibson Home Services, our Comfort Club is how we offer planned maintenance. This article compares Comfort Club membership with paying per visit, using our actual published numbers, so you can decide what makes sense for you. You can also learn more about our AC repair and heating services.
When regular check-ups are skipped, a heating system works under increasing strain. Dust collects on sensors, moving parts lose lubrication, and electrical connections can loosen over time. What starts as a small, easily corrected issue can grow into a bigger repair. For most homeowners, the choice is less about saving money and more about choosing between a scheduled tune-up and an unplanned repair.
Paying per visit is straightforward: you call when something goes wrong, and you pay for that visit and any repair. There is no monthly fee, and for some homes with newer equipment and few problems, that can be a reasonable choice.
Here is what it looks like with Gibson Home Services:
• Service fee: The standard non-member service fee is $125.
• Repair pricing: Repairs use flat-rate pricing, so you know the price before work begins. Non-members pay standard pricing with no membership discount.
• Maintenance: Seasonal tune-ups are scheduled and paid for separately.
• Timing: You call when you notice a problem, which often means you are dealing with it when the weather is already hot or cold.
The main drawback of paying per visit is not the invoice itself. It is that problems tend to be found after they have already affected your comfort, rather than during a planned check-up.
Comfort Club has three tiers. Each one lowers the service fee and adds a discount on service, and the paid tiers include two maintenance visits per year.
1. Bronze (free): $79 service fee, 10% service discount and a $500 install credit. Maintenance visits come with Silver and Gold.
2. Silver ($19 per month): $59 service fee, 15% service discount, a $750 install credit and two maintenance visits per year. Each additional system is +$10 per month.
3. Gold ($25 per month): $0 service fee, 20% service discount, a $750 install credit and two maintenance visits per year. Each additional system is +$15 per month.
Silver and Gold also include priority. Annual prepayment is available, and paid-in-full memberships are transferable. For full details, see our Comfort Club page or call us.
Scheduling a pre-winter heating start-up lets a professional look at your system before the cold arrives. Regular HVAC maintenance turns home comfort into something more predictable. A professional maintenance visit is a chance to:
1. Evaluate the system: Inspect the heat exchanger, test safety controls, and confirm the thermostat is communicating properly with the furnace.
2. Clean and adjust components: Clean the flame sensor, check burner operation and replace a clogged filter, which reduces strain on the blower motor.
3. Keep warranty paperwork in order: Some manufacturer warranties include maintenance requirements. Check your warranty documentation, and keep a record of professional maintenance.
4. Plan repairs on your schedule: Finding a worn part or a weak capacitor in the fall means it can be ordered and replaced at a convenient time, rather than after it fails on a cold night.
Beyond the mechanical benefits, there is peace of mind in knowing your system has been checked before the season when you need it most.
Seeing the options side by side makes the differences easier to weigh.
• Membership cost — Paying Per Visit: None — Bronze: Free — Silver: $19/month (+$10/month per additional system) — Gold: $25/month (+$15/month per additional system)
• Service fee — Paying Per Visit: $125 — Bronze: $79 — Silver: $59 — Gold: $0
• Service discount — Paying Per Visit: None — Bronze: 10% — Silver: 15% — Gold: 20%
• Install credit — Paying Per Visit: None — Bronze: $500 — Silver: $750 — Gold: $750
• Maintenance visits — Paying Per Visit: Scheduled and paid separately — Bronze: Upgrade to Silver — Silver: 2 per year — Gold: 2 per year
• Priority — Paying Per Visit: Not specified — Bronze: Not specified — Silver: Yes — Gold: Yes
Regular visits can also catch issues outside the current season. For example, a technician checking your system might notice a clogged condensate drain, the usual reason an AC leaks water, while getting your heater ready for winter. Paying only when something breaks rarely leaves room for that kind of whole-system look.
There is no single right answer. A few questions can help:
• Do you want seasonal maintenance? If you plan to have your system checked twice a year anyway, Silver or Gold includes those two visits.
• How often do you call for service? Each tier lowers the service fee compared with the $125 non-member fee, and Gold has no service fee at all.
• Are you thinking about replacement? The install credit ($500 with Bronze, $750 with Silver or Gold) applies when you replace equipment. If you are weighing furnace replacement, ask how it applies.
• Do you have more than one system? Silver and Gold add each additional system for a set monthly amount.
• Not ready for a monthly plan? Bronze is free and still lowers your service fee and adds a service discount.
It depends on how you use your system and how often you want it serviced. If you want two maintenance visits per year, Silver and Gold include them along with a lower service fee and a service discount. If you rarely need service and do not want a monthly fee, Bronze is free and still reduces the service fee.
The standard non-member service fee is $125. Repairs use flat-rate pricing, so you see the price before any work begins.
Silver is $19 per month with a $59 service fee and a 15% service discount. Gold is $25 per month with a $0 service fee and a 20% service discount. Both include a $750 install credit, two maintenance visits per year and priority.

A furnace that is not maintained can lose efficiency and become more likely to break down during the season. Dust buildup can cause the system to overheat, which can trigger safety switches that shut it down. Regular care helps catch these issues early.
Regular cleaning, adjustment and inspection reduce strain on components and help the system run as designed. Much like routine oil changes for a car, regular HVAC care helps prevent avoidable wear on important parts.
How you care for your heating and cooling equipment affects how comfortable your home is when the weather turns. Planned maintenance gives you regular check-ups and lower service costs, while paying per visit keeps things simple with no monthly fee. Both are reasonable; the right choice depends on your home and your preferences.
